Lyra Morgan's picture
Lyra Morgan

Lyra Morgan’s ‘statement’ paintings evoke the calmness she feels when she creates them, transforming the spaces we live in. “Representing water through paint and process is an ongoing theme. I am fascinated by the transient nature of this substance which can take many forms yet is can also be formless. The Japanese concept of ‘Wabi-Sabi’ is prevalent in my work, which is the belief in the positive outcome of serendipity.

Water is my sanctuary. To me, painting is like swimming, it comes naturally to be immersed in it and to flow with it”

Through her love of colour, Lyra creates atmosphere by working in layers with mixed media and a unique non-brush technique making her pieces one of a kind. Each piece is instinctively balanced in composition and is created organically and by Lyra being free enough in spirit to allow each work to build through a cycle of evolution.

“I immerse myself in the playful process of painting, I surrender to it and let it take me somewhere new.
Just like the oceans and the skies, colour seems to be infinite - no one colour is the same as the next. There are perceptible and imperceptible differences. Colour has the power to change a room. To change how we experience our world.

I consider myself to be a colourist. The forms and textures are inspired by nature and my artistic ideas are translated with gravity, colour-dragging techniques and building texture.”
